Media Release - National Palliative Care Week 2023

Sunday, 21 May 2023

Palliative Care Nurses Australia is a member organisation for Australian nurses who are passionate about excellence in palliative care. We provide a unified voice for nurses who deliver, or have an enduring interest in, palliative care policy, practice, research, and education.

Palliative Care Nurses Australia wishes to acknowledge the difference all nurses make to #mattersoflifeanddeath in National Palliative Care Week 2023 and every week. As the largest health workforce, nurses make a significant impact to palliative care and its leadership. Palliative Care Nurses Australia recognises the significant pressures nurses have faced and continue to face in contributing to matters of life and death.

Palliative Care Nurses Australia also acknowledges the impact of nurses despite a global nursing workforce shortage along with the increasing palliative care needs of Australians. Palliative Care Nurses Australia endorses the International Council of Nurses (ICN) “10 policy actions governments and employers must take to create and sustain health care systems that are safe, affordable, accessible, and responsive” for all people with palliative care needs in Australia. Never has it been a more important time to invest in, grow and develop palliative care nurses and nursing whatever the care setting: residential aged care, people’s homes, prisons, acute hospitals, rural and remote settings, GP practices.

To celebrate National Palliative Care Week 2023 Palliative Care Nurses Australia announces a new scholarship to support emerging palliative care nurse leaders.
