PCNA submission to the Senate Inquiry on the Future of Australia's Aged Care Sector Workforce

Palliative Care Nurses Australia welcomes the opportunity to contribute to the inquiry into the future of the Australian aged care sector’s workforce. Population ageing means that an increasing number of older Australians will require the input of aged care providers to remain at home and/or admission to residential aged care when their care needs exceed the capacity of family caregivers and available community services. This reality is reflected in the latest data which indicates that three quarters of Australians aged over 65 years will have used an aged care service in the last 12 months of their life and three-fifths were recipients of some form of aged care service at the time of their death.
